MOBIRE: Poland Hub, Battery Passports and Advanced Repairs
MOBIRE
At NOWOS, we're not just repairing batteries; we're engineering the circular systems that will power the future of urban mobility. We are thrilled to lead MOBIRE, a landmark, year-long project running from January to December 2025. In partnership with leading shared mobility operator Dott and with the vital financial support and guidance of EIT Urban Mobility, our shared mission is to create a scalable and transparent system for battery lifecycle management that will set a new industry standard.
The Three Pillars of Project MOBIRE
This project represents the next evolution of our expertise, focused on three key pillars:
Advanced Repair Protocols: We are perfecting our repair processes for the most common models on EU streets, including the Okai ES300/ES400 and Ninebot A200/C1. Our goal is to tackle common failure modes like unbalanced cells and deep discharge, making repairs faster, safer, and more cost-effective.
The Integrated Battery Passport: We are implementing a digital battery passport to track the entire lifecycle, repair history, and compliance of each battery. This provides operators with the critical data needed for efficient fleet management and to meet upcoming EU regulations.
A New European Hub in Poland: Our choice for this state-of-the-art repair hub was strategic. Poland is a major European center for battery manufacturing and e-mobility, making it the ideal location to scale our operations. This hub is where we will validate our new processes with real-world battery fleets, with Dott as our primary client.
A Partnership Built on a Shared Vision
What does this mean for Dott?
As a leading operator with a fleet of tens of thousands of vehicles, MOBIRE directly reduces operational costs and helps achieve ambitious sustainability goals. While Dott already operates a vehicle refurbishing hub in Poland, MOBIRE integrates our specialized battery repair expertise directly into their process, creating a truly holistic and efficient circular system.
EIT Urban Mobility
This project is a live blueprint for the circular economy in Europe. It strengthens the continent's leadership in green tech and turns ambitious EU policy into a practical, scalable reality. MOBIRE is a prime example of their success as an engine for European innovation.
What does it mean for NOWOS?
MOBIRE solidifies our position as an industry leader. It allows us to scale our operations in key locations, advance our repair technology, and build the critical infrastructure that will power a truly sustainable micromobility sector for years to come.
What We Will Deliver
By the end of 2025, the MOBIRE project will deliver tangible, market-ready results:
A fully operational repair hub in Poland.
A market-ready Battery Passport system for our clients.
A proven, scalable solution (TRL 9) ready for industry-wide adoption.
A public report sharing our findings to benefit the entire community. public report sharing our findings to benefit the entire community.
A Deeper Dive: The Battery Passport and New EU Rules
The MOBIRE project is critical because it proactively addresses the major regulatory changes shaping our industry. The new EU Battery Regulation aims to make all batteries sold in Europe sustainable, from ethical sourcing to recycling.
A core piece of this is the Battery Passport, a digital record of a battery's entire life, accessible via a QR code. It tracks everything from origin and materials to its state of health and repair history. This transparency is a game-changer for safety, second-life applications, and proper recycling.
The deadline is approaching fast: the Battery Passport becomes mandatory for all new light transport batteries (>2kWh) from February 2027. Our work on MOBIRE ensures that our partners will be ready, compliant, and ahead of the curve.
